ABORIGINAL NARRATIVE

ABORIGINAL WHALE.jpg

During the last ice age (6000-7000 years ago), Wadjemup was
an important meeting place for the Whadjuk Ngoongar people as it was considered as a ceremonial site

Wadjemup, “place across the water where the spirits are”

A transition place for spirits after death and before moving onto the afterlife

Strong easterly winds carry spirits in a cleansing smoke, from the land across the sea

Spirits then sit on a special tree, “mudjar”

When ready to move on, spirits embark on a journey to the western horizon on the back of the spirit whale
